summer goal

My goal is to reread a classic. (I actually have already done this - I read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen for the second time.) Therefore, I need another goal. Hmmmm, I am going to just try to read as many books as I can... and I also am going to go green by trying to avoid using plastic sacks. How about that?
I have read three new Gateway books this summer. The first was Three Little Words which was a nonfiction book about a young girl's experience in foster care. I then read Wake which had an interesting conflict about a girl who would get sucked into other's dreams. It is actually the first book in a trilogy so I would like to try to read the other two books. The last book I read was Sweethearts. It is about how a childhood friendship can stay with you through a lifetime. Now I am reading Specials which is the third book in the Scott Westerfeld Pretties/ Uglies trilogy. M Rash

Hopefully, some of you have read the newspaper by now and are eager to try blogging. I’ve never done it, and am excited to start, but I want some company!

Here’s how it’s going to work: The name of the blog is DIVE IN, because the idea is to dive in to some new experiences this summer. Try something that’s been on your mind for a while and you haven’t had time to do. Or get yourself into a good new habit. Just choose a few things you’d like to accomplish or experience this summer.

There will be one little area you will be required to dive into: each blogger will choose at least one book to read over the course of the summer, and post a few thoughts, reactions, etc. It can be as simple as “this book isn’t as good as I thought it would be”, or “wow, I’m really liking this”. Or as complicated as a full-blown criticism or recommendation.

After that, you are free to choose any other goal you want (or more than one!). Here are a few I’ve come across on other websites:
run a 5k
write a letter to a family member or old friend
give up TV for a day or a week
go to an art museum
introduce yourself to a new person
go to sleepover camp
try some vegetarian meals
read every day for an hour
visit a national park
learn to cook one good meal
visit a relative’s grave
volunteer at the nursing home
go to a state you’ve never been to before
skydive
memorize a poem
learn to play piano
plant a garden

It’s entirely up to you what you choose to dive into. I am choosing: (1) eating entirely vegetarian meals one day a week (2) learning the basic 4 guitar chords so that I can become a rock star (3) reading A Member of the Wedding by Flannery O’Connor.

Whatever you choose, the whole idea is to share your experience with this blog community. How did you like it? How did it feel? What did you learn?

I’m excited to hear from you! Remember, everyone in the blog ring will be able to read your posts, so keep them appropriate. (I do have the power to edit and delete)
